KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To drive the development and implementation of the Oceania Rugby Commercial Strategy
  • To be the key point of contact for and on behalf of Oceania Rugby for commercial matters
  • Drive revenue generation derived from national and international companies, governments and non-government organisations
  • Reduce financial reliance on World Rugby and ensure that Oceania Rugby’s Strategic Plans and in particular its Commercial Strategy can be effectively and successfully delivered.
  • Establish new and maintain current strong and credible relationships with key organisations throughout the region
  • Establish and maintain prospective and current client relationships at a strategic level
  • Develop bespoke leverage and activation strategies that appeal to prospects and deliver a return on investment that maximises potential growth
  • Source options for Government funding, Non-Government partnerships and/or commercial investment to assist the delivery of Oceania Rugby Tournaments and development programs.
  • Procure long term hosting arrangements for Key Oceania Rugby Tournaments .
  • Be the point of contact for Oceania Rugby for all commercial requirements ensuring that all benefits in agreements are delivered.
  • Manage and support development of campaigns across all areas of the business
  • In conjunction with the Oceania Rugby Competitions Manager, be the point of contact for assisting in negotiations for Tournament ticketing and broadcast agreements.

KEY ATTRIBUTES:

  • Ability to deliver strategic insights, advice and industry intelligence to educate potential and existing sponsors, partners and stakeholders on strategic opportunities
  • Ability to work closely with regional team to identify saleable properties for optimal commercial results and deliver new commercial partnerships to increase revenue and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Experience in creation and implementation of plans for strategic business development
  • Ability to credibly persuade current and prospective stakeholders as to the value of relationships with Oceania Rugby.
  • Team player, who is collaborative and articulate
  • Experience in tender development
  • Multiple project management skills
  • Proven experience in sales, business development, analysis, strategy, account management and digital and commercial partnerships with further skills evident in strategic prospecting at community, local and national level
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to work under pressure while contributing to a culture of client service excellence and delivery
  • Ability to adhere to existing policies and processes to ensure. governance & compliance with organisation standards and regulations
  • Ability to work across stakeholders to identify and develop partnership opportunities
  • Ability to draw on a strong business and agency network, combined with proven sales and servicing experience to develop deep client relationships
  • A good understanding of the regional sporting environment, particularly of rugby union

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • An appropriate qualification, with at least 10 years’ experience in the commercial space
  • Excellent understanding of management and business strategy.
  • Proven ability to create and drive new concepts to a successful conclusion.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with World Rugby and Union staff, volunteers and other stakeholders in the game. 
  • Experience in living and working in the Pacific Islands and a knowledge and cultural awareness of the Oceania Region.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • This is a part time position of 2-3 days per week in a flexible environment.
  • A suitable agreement will be made with the successful candidate to ensure appropriate commission.
  • A flexible working approach is provided.
  • It will entail significant international (Oceania Region) and domestic travel.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification
  • At least 10 years' experience in the commercial space
  • Experience in living and working in the Pacific Islands and a knowledge and cultural awareness of the Oceania Region

It is responsible for representing the interests of its fifteen Member Unions and one Associate Member Union, promoting the development and growth of Rugby and delivering tournaments throughout the Oceania Region.
