Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the development and delivery of the Oceania Rugby Communication Plan
  • Drive media coverage across traditional and digital platforms
  • Manage the implementation of Oceania Rugby Content plans
  • Manage Oceania Rugby Digital platforms, including technical updates, protocols and currency of content, including but not limited to;
    1. Website
    2. Tournament Platform
    3. Facebook
    4. Twitter
    5. Instagram
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of media platforms and contacts
  • Manage relationships with media personnel across the region
  • Manage a digital library for use by Oceania Rugby and members

Content production

  • Create engaging, informative and relevant media releases, editorial and digital media content relating to Oceania Rugby, World Rugby and Member Unions, across each strategic area of Oceania Rugby: governance, participation, tournaments, training & education, partnerships and the women’s game 
  • Assist team members with the design, copy writing and production of printed communications materials
  • Create and deliver media conferences and events.

Team and regional support

  • In conjunction with senior staff oversee the consistent and accurate implementation and integration of commercial, sponsorship and partnership obligations including use of branding, logos and approved messaging for Oceania Rugby and its partner organisation ensuring that all obligations are fulfilled
  • Manage the Oceania Rugby Media Internship program
  • Support Member Unions in sourcing and creating relevant content as required
  • Assist with the marketing and commercial deliverables of Oceania Rugby
  • Provide timely and relevant reporting on Oceania Rugby content and platforms


  • Creative and engaging communication skills both written and oral
  • Sound knowledge in the use of traditional, digital and event media platforms
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator. Proficiency in Adobe Premier/Apple final cut is desirable. Proficiency in other Adobe products will be highly regarded
  • Initiative to identify and seize opportunities, select appropriate content and manage the messaging to achieve results and manage stakeholders needs
  • Capability to work remotely to produce the desired results
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Knowledge of the game of Rugby and an interest in its growth throughout the Oceania Region
  • Ability to communicate effectively with World Rugby and Union staff, volunteers and other stakeholders in the game 
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with stakeholders throughout Oceania


  • A degree or qualification in Communications or Journalism or similar
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar role (communication role, agency or in-house) preferred
  • Experience managing proactive and reactive multi-channel communications programs, with concrete results
  • Excellent media relations skills and demonstrated experience building relationships with a range of media
  • Experience in working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and showing a cultural awareness of the Oceania Region
  • Experience working in the sports, entertainment or consumer industry
  • Familiarity with event management and development of press materials and activities
  • Experience in living and working in the Pacific Islands and a knowledge and cultural awareness of the Oceania Region.


  • The position will be full-time with flexible working hours available for the successful candidate.
  • Willingness to travel overseas when required, international (Oceania Region) and domestic travel is entailed.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification
  • Experience in living and working in the Pacific Islands and a knowledge and cultural awareness of the Oceania Region
  • • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar role (communication role, agency or in-house) preferred

It is responsible for representing the interests of its fifteen Member Unions and one Associate Member Union, promoting the development and growth of Rugby and delivering tournaments throughout the Oceania Region.
